Alpine Dam Loop
This is the quintessential Marin road ride. Rolling out through residential Marin you eventually arrive in Fairfax and the infamous Bolinas Fairfax road. A left on Bo-Fax will take you over a few climbs and descents to Alpine Dam, where the real climbing starts. BoFax tops out on Mt. Tam’s Ridgecrest Blvd (made famous through numerous car commercials), where you’ll experience the joy of “The Seven Sisters” which translates to 7 climbs before cresting out at the Rock Springs parking lot. From there it’s a fun, twisty series of descents back to Mill Valley and Sausalito. For the hearty, this ride can be easily extended from the Rock Springs parking lot by adding in the climb up to Mt. Tam’s East Peak.
The Alpine Dam Loop offers beautiful vistas of the Pacific Ocean, Bolinas, Pt Reyes National Seashore and south to San Francisco, as well as redwood groves and the pristine Alpine Lake.
This is a road ride and not recommended for e-bikes or inexperienced riders.
Distance: 44 miles (+) • Difficulty – Advanced Advanced difficulty rating due to sustained climbs and twisty mountain descents. Should comfortable climbing and descending on country roads.
